Super Starz Auto Driving School 5-Hour Course Review (2026)

Super Starz Auto Driving School ranks ninth with an 8.3 score. It runs a live, instructor-led Zoom class every Sunday for $50 and handles registration through a contract-and-upload checkout.

8.3/10

Checkout comes with a contract

Super Starz front-loads the paperwork. At checkout you upload your learner permit or ID, confirm the details the system reads from it, and sign the school’s contract. Only then do you pay.

The rules on documents are specific. A passport is not accepted, and a paper permit is accepted only together with a NYS ID. That is consistent with the DMV’s approach to live classes, which require a school to identify each student, but it means you should have the right document in hand before you start. The DMV’s guidance for live classes asks schools to record each student’s permit information at enrollment and confirm identity throughout the course, so an upload step is not unusual.

A Sunday class, with Saturdays on request

The class is live on Zoom with an instructor. The standing session is every Sunday from 10 AM to 3 PM. Saturday sessions are added on demand, and you call the school to ask for one.

Compare that with the other options in our ranking. The top four schools offer three English classes a week plus a Sunday Spanish class on select dates, so a learner who misses a date waits days, not a week. At Super Starz one missed Sunday means a week’s wait unless a Saturday session is arranged. The upside is a weekend daytime slot, which suits people who work evenings.

The school does not state which language the class is taught in, so Spanish speakers should ask before booking.

$50 and one open question about the certificate

The class costs $50 per student. That is $10 above the flat $40 at 5 Hour Class NYC, NY 5-Hour Course and Take 5-Hour Course, the same as Drive Rite, Totally Cool and Alyaa, and $5 above Image Driving School. It is the middle of the pack: ten of the 13 schools we rank list $50 or less, and only three list more.

The MV-278 is issued once you complete the class. How it reaches you, by mail, pickup or otherwise, is not stated on the page we reviewed. Ask when you register, because the DMV requires the original certificate at the road test and it must still be valid on the day you book. The DMV course page explains both rules.

A page that also explains the online option

The 5-hour class page does more than sell the Zoom class. It explains the state’s self-paced online option and links to the 14 providers on the DMV’s list, with a note that the list was last checked on September 27, 2026. Super Starz does not sell that course itself.

That is helpful for adults with a plastic photo permit, who are the learners eligible for the online format; junior-permit holders are not. The official list is on the DMV’s online providers page.

Who it suits, and how to book

Super Starz suits learners in Bay Ridge and nearby Brooklyn, where the school sits at 7920 5th Avenue (718-921-2666), and on Staten Island, where the second office is at 97 New Dorp Plaza (718-333-5359). It is a good match for anyone who has Sundays free and wants a school with a local office to call.

Teens aged 16 and 17 can book the live class. Learners under 18 must also wait at least six months after receiving the permit before a road test and bring a signed MV-262, so a Sunday class fits easily into a school-year plan.

It is a weaker match if you need a weekday class or a Spanish class. Coreway lists weekday evenings and select Spanish Sundays, and Image Driving School lists six days a week. Local alternatives are on our Brooklyn and Staten Island pages, and the full ranking shows the rest. To enroll, use the school’s 5-hour class page.

What we like

  • A Sunday class suits anyone who works or studies on weekdays
  • Offices in both Bay Ridge and New Dorp
  • A paper permit is accepted when you also show a NYS photo ID
  • Its class page explains the self-paced online option and points to the DMV’s list of online providers

Keep in mind

  • One regular weekly class; Saturday sessions depend on demand
  • The language of instruction is not stated
  • How the MV-278 is delivered is not stated

Our verdict

Super Starz is a practical Sunday option for two boroughs, and its checkout process is explained in unusual detail: permit upload, a contract to sign, and which documents it will not accept. The $50 price sits mid-range, $10 above the booking sites. The weak spots are all things the school does not publish, namely the class language and how the certificate reaches you. Call before you book if you need either answered.

Best for: Bay Ridge and Staten Island learners who can take a Sunday class
