Image Driving School 5-Hour Course Review (2026)

Image Driving School ranks sixth with an 8.9 score. It is the only school in our ranking that teaches the 5-hour class in a classroom as well as on Zoom, at $45.

8.9/10

A classroom in Brooklyn, Zoom the rest of the week

The headline here is the room. Image Driving School holds the class in person at 9621 Flatlands Avenue in Brooklyn on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 AM to 3 PM. The school says walk-ins are acceptable, and that a reserved seat is held for 15 minutes.

DaysFormatHours
Tuesday, ThursdayClassroom10 AM to 3 PM
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, SaturdayZoom10 AM to 3 PM or 12 to 5 PM
Wednesday, Thursday eveningsZoom5 to 10 PM

The school describes this as six sessions a week. Times above are as listed in October 2026, so confirm a slot on the school’s schedule page before you plan around it.

Choosing between the two formats is mostly a matter of days. On Tuesday and Thursday daytimes the classroom is the option. Zoom covers the rest of the week and two evenings. If you want an evening class, it has to be Zoom on Wednesday or Thursday from 5 to 10 PM, and the camera, microphone and quiet-place rules apply.

House rules, especially on Zoom

Image publishes unusually specific expectations. For the Zoom sessions:

  • You need a camera, a microphone and a quiet place. A car or a workplace does not count.
  • A copy of your learner permit goes to the school before class.
  • The session runs exactly five hours, and the school says there are no breaks.
  • Partial attendance is voided and the class has to be retaken.
  • Rescheduling needs 24 hours’ notice, and no-shows are not refunded.

These are Image’s own policies rather than DMV rules. The DMV’s requirements for live online classes are a qualified live instructor and identity checks at enrollment and during the course. The upside of such a detailed list is that you know exactly what you are signing up for.

$45, and a trip to the office for the certificate

The class costs $45. That is $5 above the flat $40 at 5 Hour Class NYC, NY 5-Hour Course and Take 5-Hour Course and $5 below the $50 that Drive Rite, Super Starz, Totally Cool and Alyaa list.

The certificate works differently from most. The MV-278 is available the next business day, and you must come to the office to sign it and pick it up within 48 hours. The school’s page mentions no mail option. In practice a Zoom student still makes one trip to Flatlands Avenue, so count the travel from your neighborhood. Coreway (mail or pickup) and Drive Rite (mail for $5, or pickup) both give you a way to avoid the trip.

Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere

Image suits learners who want a real classroom, which no other school in our ranking offers, and Brooklyn residents who can reach Flatlands Avenue on a Tuesday or Thursday daytime. It also suits anyone who wants a Zoom option with evening choices on Wednesday and Thursday.

Teens can join from age 16. Learners under 18 must also wait at least six months after receiving the permit before a road test and bring a signed MV-262, so for them the calendar of the test matters more than the frequency of classes.

Look elsewhere if you need Spanish, because the school does not state the class language on its page, or if a trip to the office within 48 hours is hard to manage. The top four schools in our ranking teach online across all five boroughs. See where Image sits among Brooklyn options on our Brooklyn page, or compare every provider in the full ranking.

How to sign up

Start from the school’s 5-hour class page and pick a day. Questions about seats go to the office on (718) 922-2600. Pick the classroom or Zoom first, since the days differ, and have your permit ready either way.

What we like

  • Classroom seats on Tuesday and Thursday, 10 AM to 3 PM, for people who prefer a room to a screen
  • Evening Zoom classes on Wednesday and Thursday
  • $45, the lowest live-class price among ranked schools outside the top four
  • MV-278 ready the next business day

Keep in mind

  • The certificate is signed and collected at the office; no mail option is stated
  • Attendance rules are strict: a missed part of the class means retaking it
  • The language of instruction is not stated

Our verdict

Image Driving School is the one ranked school where you can sit in a classroom, and that single fact explains its place near the top of the schools outside the first four. Its $45 price is the lowest live-class price outside the top four, and it publishes both a classroom and a Zoom schedule. The trade-offs are practical: you collect the certificate in person, and the school does not say which languages it teaches in. Choose it when you want a room and a teacher in front of you rather than a screen.

Best for: Brooklyn learners who want a real classroom seat or a Wednesday or Thursday evening Zoom class
