A live Zoom class in small groups
Coreway teaches the 5-hour course live on Zoom, with an instructor on screen for the whole session. It is not a recording, and it is not the state’s self-paced online option. That distinction matters for one group in particular: Coreway takes learners from age 16, including junior-permit (DJ/MJ) holders, and junior applicants are not eligible for the online format.
The weekly pattern is easy to remember. English classes run Tuesday and Thursday at 5:00 PM and Saturday at 1:00 PM. Spanish classes run on select Sundays at 3:00 PM with a bilingual instructor. The schedule on the Coreway course page shows 5 to 12 seats per class, so groups stay small.
Coreway has two Brooklyn offices, at 26 Court Street, Suite 614, and 590B New York Ave. Office staff also speak Russian, Ukrainian and Turkish, which helps when a parent handles the booking for a teenager.
Price: $40 headline, $50 on some dates
Coreway advertises the class from $40. Some dates on the schedule are listed at $50, so read the price next to the date you choose. Card payments carry a 2.9% processing fee, which is about $1.16 on a $40 class, and Klarna and Afterpay are accepted if you would rather split the cost.
For perspective, the other live classes in our ranking list between $40 and $65. Coreway’s $40 matches the flat price at 5 Hour Class NYC, NY 5-Hour Course and Take 5-Hour Course. Its $50 dates match Drive Rite, Super Starz, Totally Cool and Alyaa, and sit $10 under Grand Prix.
Permit check, attendance and your MV-278
- Permit: bring a plastic NY photo learner permit, or a paper permit plus a NYS photo ID. Coreway checks it on camera.
- Attendance: you must attend the full class. There are no quizzes and no final exam.
- Changes: rescheduling is free with at least 24 hours’ notice.
- Certificate: the MV-278 is issued the next business day. You can have it mailed by USPS (1 to 2 weeks standard, with 2-day and overnight options at checkout) or collect it at 590B New York Ave. Coreway also gives a same-day digital confirmation.
- Replacement: a duplicate costs $25 while the original is still valid.
Look after the paper original. The DMV says an MV-278 is valid for one year and that you must bring the original, not a copy, to your road test. The rule is spelled out on the DMV’s pre-licensing course page.
Road test help and lesson packages
Coreway lists its extras openly. A road test appointment booking costs $20 standard or $70 rush, and a car for the road test is $110. Each of those is $5 below the matching price ($25, $75 and $115) at those three sites.
If you want everything in one purchase, packages bundle the class, a road test appointment, the car and 45-minute lessons:
| Lessons included | Package price |
|---|---|
| 1 lesson | $230 |
| 3 lessons | $332 |
| 5 lessons | $437 |
| 8 lessons | $585 |
The packages are where Coreway goes furthest beyond a class-only purchase. If you already know you need practice time before the test, buying it together saves a second round of searching.
Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere
Coreway fits teens with junior permits, parents who prefer a school with a Brooklyn address and a printed certificate, and Spanish speakers who can make a Sunday date. The fixed evening and Saturday slots suit people who work or study during the day.
It is less convenient if your free time is a weekday morning or a late evening. Drive Rite lists Zoom sessions from morning to 10 PM on most days, at $50. If you want a flat $40 on every date, read the 5 Hour Class NYC review, which covers a booking site with the same weekly schedule. Brooklyn learners can weigh local options on our Brooklyn page, and every provider is scored on the full ranking.
To sign up, open the Coreway course page, choose a date from the schedule and check the price listed for it. Keep your permit within reach for the on-camera check.
What we like
- Small groups: the schedule shows 5 to 12 seats per class
- MV-278 issued the next business day, with same-day digital confirmation
- Certificate by standard or expedited mail, or pickup at 590B New York Ave
- Road test booking, a car for the test and lesson packages from the same school
Keep in mind
- Some class dates are listed at $50 instead of $40
- Card payments carry a 2.9% processing fee
- Classes run on fixed dates, so you book a seat ahead
Our verdict
Coreway takes first place because it pairs a published price with the widest set of services around the class: next-business-day certificate handling, a Spanish option, and road test extras that run from appointment booking to lesson packages. The $40 headline price matches the booking-site trio below it, but some dates show $50 and card payments add 2.9%, so check the date you pick. If you want a single school to handle the class, the paper MV-278 and the road test, it is the strongest fit in our ranking. If all you need is a straightforward seat at the lowest price, the next three listings run the same class times at a flat $40.
Best for: Learners who want one Brooklyn school for the class, the certificate and the road test
